Common Iontophoresis Problems Solved: Athlete's Foot

By Sam Nardi 2021 Mar 8th
Dermadry Team

Iontophoresis is one of the safest and most effective treatment options for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). It's a simple solution that is suitable for most and offers long-lasting results. 98.3% of Dermadry's customers achieve their desired results, however some just need a little help along the way, which is when our customer support team steps in to help you reach your sweat-free goals!

In our newest series titled Dermadry Case Studies, our very own Abhishek, Quality Control Associate for Dermadry's Customer Support Team, guides us through common problems some encounter when starting iontophoresis treatment. His unique insight and knowledge is derived from his years of helping thousands of customers achieve their desired dryness by offering them the support and guidance they need to navigate through their issues and find a treatment schedule that suits their lifestyle. Abhishek has closely worked with a wide range of people and dealt with an equally wide range of cases—some particular, and some more common! In this series, he sheds a light on some cases that have stood out in his years as a force in our Customer Support team!

In this episode, Abhishek tells the story of a client named David, a 52-year-old stockbroker, runs 5 times a week to help keep his mind at ease. However, David’s Plantar Hyperhidrosis (i.e. excessively sweaty feet) often impedes his ability to run freely, since he experiences a burning sensation and constant discomfort while running. To make this a more enjoyable experience, he began using Dermadry’s Hands and Feet iontophoresis device. Despite using a fairly low current level (i.e. 7mA), he constantly experienced a very strong stinging sensation during his treatments, which would consequently cause redness and small, white blisters to appear on his skin. A detailed examination of his case by Dermadry’s Customer Support team made him realize that there was another prevalent factor causing him this irritation and preventing him from getting completely dry feet; athlete’s foot.

Watch the video to learn more about the how Athlete's Foot can interfere with iontophoresis treatment and what can be done so you can get back on track to achieving your sweat-free goals!

Dermadry Case Studies: Athlete's Foot

Running often helps bring about a sense of calmness and tranquility to an otherwise busy and hectic lifestyle. David, a 52-year old stockbroker, runs 5 times a week to help keep his mind at ease.

As a result, he would have to stop treatments for 4-5 days and then resume treatments again. However, despite lowering the current level, he would continue getting this skin irritation on his feet after every treatment. This subsequently made it challenging for him to do treatments consistently, thereby impacting the time it would take him to achieve dryness.

A detailed examination of his case by Dermadry’s Customer Support team made him realize that there was another prevalent factor causing him this irritation, and preventing him from getting completely dry feet; athlete’s foot. This is a fungal infection that usually begins to appear in between the toes, and is commonly found in people who wear tight shoes while having excessively sweaty feet. This fungal infection lives in moisture and retains a person’s sweat, and David had very clear symptoms (i.e. the burning sensation on his feet, and small, white blisters) of this infection being present on his skin.

David was advised to stop treatments for 2 consecutive weeks, and apply an over-the-counter antifungal cream called Clotrimazole, for twice a day, everyday, for this 2-week period. He was also asked to clean his socks, shoes and bed sheets regularly, to ensure that the residue from this fungal infection would not continue to be present on his skin. After completing this 2-week period, David, who had a moderate level of hyperhidrosis, was able to resume his treatments at 5 times per week again, and achieve 90% dryness on his feet after 5 consecutive weeks of treatments.

Thereafter, he made sure to do 2 maintenance treatments per week, to ensure that his skin could continue staying dry. David’s dream of running freely with ease finally became a reality, thanks to Dermadry’s incredible iontophoresis device.
