Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month 2022
Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month 2022
This November, Dermadry celebrates Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month, an initiative launched by the International Hyperhidrosis Society. Over 385 million people suffer from uncontrollable excessive sweating, a medical condition known as hyperhidrosis, but often feel alone. Despite its widespread prevalence and significant impact on health and wellbeing, it is still misunderstood and underserved—even in the medical sector.
Dermadry has once again launched initiatives to highlight this month dedicated to raising awareness of this common but misunderstood condition. Their goal is to raise awareness of this condition and support the millions of individuals who are affected by hyperhidrosis worldwide. While hyperhidrosis is a serious sweating disorder that can lead to a wide range of negative impacts, there is hope in the form of support, resources, and treatments to help manage the condition.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Those with hyperhidrosis can sweat anytime, anywhere, in any temperature, and up to 4-5x more than the average person or what is needed for body temperature regulation. Despite hyperhidrosis affecting approximately 1 in 20 people worldwide, it continues to be misunderstood, stigmatized, and underdiagnosed. The goal of Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month 2022 is to change the public perception of the condition, and improve the lives of those affected by increasing visibility and access to information, resources, and treatment.
Dermadry's Initiatives for Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month 2022
While no cure exists, a range of treatment options, such as Dermadry’s home-use iontophoresis device treats excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the hands, feet, and underarms—the three areas most commonly affected by the condition. Proper treatment can help those living with hyperhidrosis regain their confidence, and live comfortably dry.
Throughout the month, Dermadry will be providing clinicians, hyperhidrosis sufferers and the general public with educational and practical information to help improve the understanding and management of extreme and uncontrollable sweating. Our Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month initiatives will also serve to inspire and motivate healthcare providers and patients to connect and build a community through social media. Watch Dermadry on all its channels and platforms all November (and all year long!) for informative, educational, and interactive content on hyperhidrosis diagnosis and treatment, and for ways to get involved.
Those who follow Dermadry on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, and subscribe to their newsletter on their website during the month of November will have access to exclusive contests, giveaways, and content. Dermadry will be sharing useful hyperhidrosis content and “life hacks”, as well as their insider access that includes tips and tricks on managing the condition obtained directly from medical professionals.
This November, you can help make a change by participating in Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month. Let’s spread the word about hyperhidrosis together! Use the hashtags #KnowSweat2022 and #SoExtra to join in!
About the International Hyperhidrosis Society
Founded in 2003 by an elite team of world-respected physicians and experts in hyperhidrosis research, the International Hyperhidrosis Society is the only independent, non-profit, global organization that strives to improve the quality of life among those affected by excessive sweating. Its community brings together people from all over the world; creating a global network for advocacy, support, and information-sharing. Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month 2022 will highlight how hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by "extra", as in extra sweating.
This year, in honor of Hyperhidrosis Awareness Month, the International Hyperhidrosis Society will explain eight medical issues that are so extra, including: acne, impacted ear wax, psoriasis, hypertrichosis, distichiasis, hyperdontia, and of course, hyperhidrosis. Their goal for the 6th annual Hyperhidrosis Awareness month is to amplify the message that excessive, uncontrollable sweating is a serious medical condition warranting serious attention.
