Dermadry’s beginnings can be traced back to one of our co-founder’s own lifelong struggle with hyperhidrosis.
Like most hyperhidrosis sufferers, he had been dealing with the condition privately for many years. However, upon entering university, the effects of the condition were becoming too difficult to deal with. He took this opportunity to open up about his condition to a couple of his closest friends, who not only offered their support, but joined forces to create what is now known as Dermadry.
Our first-hand experience with the condition is what gave us the often-lacking insight as to what someone with hyperhidrosis is looking for in a treatment option. Years of disappointing results with ineffective treatments and countless hours of research led us to iontophoresis technology, which seemed like a promising treatment with untapped potential.
While medical literature on iontophoresis technology for the treatment of hyperhidrosis can be traced as far back as the 1930s, it had not undergone any significant development for decades. Iontophoresis machines at the time were largely outdated, ineffective, costly, hard to use, and had limited accessibility. These outdated devices negatively affected the public perception of iontophoresis treatment and its status as an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis. It also put many people off to the idea of it as a viable treatment option deserving of recognition in the medical sphere, despite its merits and potential as a first-line treatment option for hyperhidrosis.
Iontophoresis machines were deserving of a much-needed upgrade, so we created Dermadry, a device fitting for modern times that we were so personally satisfied with that we were proud to use on ourselves. With the help of experts in the fields of engineering and medicine, we developed an iontophoresis device with efficiency, simplicity, and safety in mind. We shared it with the world to make iontophoresis a better-known, safer, more effective, medically-recognized, and trusted solution for hyperhidrosis worldwide.
What began as a search for a solution to a personal problem, has led us to become the leaders of iontophoresis treatment for hyperhidrosis worldwide. In 2018, Dermadry became the first and only tap water iontophoresis device to receive a medical device license from Health Canada. Since then, we have proudly added to our ever-growing list of worldwide certifications and recognitions, including our FDA clearance in 2020, and our CE marking in 2021. We continue to work closely with medical professionals around the world to increase the visibility, validity, and accessibility of iontophoresis treatment.
